Piet Mondriaan (1872 – 1944)

His later geometric-abstract work, with its characteristic horizontal and vertical black lines and primary colours, is world-famous and serves as inspiration for architects and designers. He developed his own art theory, which he called Nieuwe Beelding or neoplasticism. Abroad he became known as Mondrian after living in Paris.
