The statue, the bust, is the most complex bust Acrimboldo has made and is based on the four elements of nature. The bust is made of Polyresin/synthetic resin.
Immediately after arriving at the Habsburg court, the artist Arcimboldo painted the first version of The Four Seasons. In a second series of four paintings, he made faces of the elements air, land, water and fire.
The style in which Arcimboldo painted is known as mannerism, a style that marked the transition from the Renaissance to the Baroque era.
Because of his bizarre images the Mannerist artist was considered by the surrealists of the 20th century as their forerunner.
